The Brief
Women Empower X, or WEX, is a series of events designed to empower and support women in business and entrepreneurship. These events, held in locations across the US from Washington D.C. to Los Angeles, provide a platform for women to learn, connect, and grow their businesses as well as their careers. WEX attracts a diverse group of attendees from entrepreneurs to industry leaders who are all united by their passion and determination to turn their ideas into reality.
As a member of the WEX team, I had the opportunity to work with a group of like-minded individuals who were committed to growing the brand and promoting the empowerment of women. In this role I had the chance to be involved in the creation of content and social media designs, which provided me with valuable experience working under deadlines, in team environments, and in the fast-paced setting of a startup. My time at WEX has undoubtedly had a positive impact on my personal and professional development, and it's one of the reasons I love sharing about it.
The Process
While still maintaining the core WEX brand, each event had its own unique look. Followers of WEX were able to recognize each event whether it was WEXDC or WEXLA through that aesthetic alone. The aesthetics for each location took into account the area and culture within that specific area. For example, WEXFTL took into account what Florida is known for- Great weather, amazing beaches, and tasty seafood. That was integrated into how the designs were created and marketed.
Planning of where WEX would be heading next began almost immediately before the current event had ended. This required me to work efficiently and effectively in a fast-paced environment, where the tasks of creating and maintaining content for the current event had to be balanced with the planning and preparation for the next. To meet these demands, I had to establish an effective workflow that allowed myself to produce and distribute content in a timely manner. This included setting clear goals and deadlines, prioritizing tasks, and collaborating with other members of the team to ensure that all work was completed on schedule. By implementing these strategies I was able to navigate the demands of the role and successfully support the growth and success of the WEX brand.
The Results
GIPHY is a platform that allows users to search for and share short, looping videos and images called GIFs. It also offers a feature known as GIPHY Stickers, which are animated stickers that can be added to photos and videos in social media posts and stories. In the case of the WEX events, sets of stickers were created and promoted on the official WEX Instagram and Facebook accounts. By encouraging our followers to use the stickers in their own stories and posts, we were able to create a sense of community and engagement around the event. As more and more people began using the stickers, their friends of friends did too- and they ended up not only bringing in over 15 million impressions but also can be credited to influxes of new attendees joining the event.
The stickers turned out be a powerful tool for promoting events because they were eye-catching and easily shareable. They also helped to create a unique and recognizable brand identity for the event itself. Overall, the use of GIPHY stickers was an innovative and effective way to promote the events and attract new attendees. By using them in our own social media posts, promoting their use, and making them easily accessible, we were able to generate significant visibility and interest in the event.
