The Brief
The Kong Land DAO is a decentralized platform that aims to connect the physical and digital worlds through the use of SiLo and HaLo chips. These chips are equipped with near field communication (NFC) technology and are embedded in physical items such as clothing, accessories, and other products. When an item with a SiLo or HaLo chip is brought into close proximity with a device that can read NFC tags, such as a smartphone, the chip can communicate with the device and provide information about the item or perform some other interaction. That information is stored on the Ethereum blockchain, a decentralized and secure platform for storing and accessing data.
The chips can be used to verify the authenticity of a product, as the information stored on the blockchain can provide a clear record of ownership and provenance. The chips can also be used for marketing purposes, as they can provide a way for companies to interact with customers and provide them with additional experiences which weren't possible beforehand. The Kong Land DAO and this technology represent a new way of connecting the physical and digital worlds, and have the potential to revolutionize the way we interact with and think about the objects around us.
A Decentralized Autonomous Organization, or DAO, is a type of organization that is governed and managed through the use of smart contracts and blockchain technology. It is decentralized in the sense that it is not controlled by a central authority or government, and autonomous in that it is self-governed and self-sustaining.
In a DAO, all decision-making and rule-making is carried out by the members of the organization, typically through a voting process in which each member has an equal say (check out Snapshot). This allows for a more democratic and transparent decision-making process, as all members are able to participate and be heard.
DAOs are still in the early stages of development and are largely experimental at this point. Working as part of a DAO has been a unique and exciting experience, particularly from a front-line perspective, as you have the opportunity to be involved in shaping the direction and decision-making process of the organization.
ETHDenver is a conference and hackathon that focuses on fostering growth and innovation within the Ethereum community by showcasing the various projects built on the Ethereum blockchain. Held in Colorado, the event features hackathons, funding rounds, and other opportunities for participants to develop their projects. ETHDenver not only recognizes the brands built on Ethereum but also provides a space for builders to continue growing their projects.
Although we didn't have an official booth at the event, we improvised a way to market the DAO and the chips. I came up with the idea of an official scavenger hunt that involved HaLo-chipped gear, such as a vinyl record and a LootLarp foam sword. When participants scanned the chips, they were led to a link where they could redeem a unique POAP. POAP, or the Proof of Attendance Protocol, is a web 3 DAO that utilizes NFTs (non-fungible tokens) to record events attended and personal achievements. You can learn more about POAP on their official site or contact me for questions.
